USA vs. Germany: World Cup 2014 Day 15 Open Thread, Also Ghana vs. Portugal, Algeria vs. Russia, and South Korea vs. Belgium

Today's Games: IT DOESN'T MATTER. USA. GERMANY. ALL THE MARBLES.

Mark J. Rebilas-USA TODAY Sports

Yeah, sure, today is day 15 of the World Cup and there are three other matches going on, which you will of course be more than welcome to talk about in the live thread. But that's not why I'm here. That's not why I'm going to Providence and sacrificing a day of studying for the Bar Exam. I'm talking about the United States and Germany. I'm talking about the match that will determine the Yanks' World Cup future.

Today's Games

United States vs. Germany, noon ET - THE ONLY ONE THAT MATTERS.

Ghana vs. Portugal, noon ET - Two of Ghana's best got sent home for fighting. Portugal are on their last legs. Do us all a favor: get a draw and go away quietly.

Algeria vs. Russia, 4 PM ET - When this World Cup started, did you think the Fennec Foxes would be in pole position to take second in Group F? I didn't. But they are, and damn do they look pretty solid doing it. Russia, meanwhile, has floundered, looking at times assured and at other times disjointed and horrible. Fabio Capello may have been a winner in the past but his teams play so ugly. I hope Algeria beats them 4-0. Just don't let Czar Putin set his sights on North Africa next, I guess.

Belgium vs. South Korea, 4 PM ET - Korea could theoretically go through. They shouldn't. They look horrendous. They bore me almost as much as the Greeks. Belgium, on the other hand, needs a dominant performance to give them some momentum going into the Round of 16. I hope the U.S. doesn't meet them, but they probably will if they advance. Still, for neutral purposes, let's hope the Red Devils turn on the style.

I'll be at Spats in Providence. Find me.
