Matt Turner’s return to form has seen the 25-year-old goalkeeper re-signed to a multi-year contract extension. Official terms of the deal have not yet been released.

Head coach and sporting director Bruce Arena is looking forward to the future with Turner, stating, “Matt has been a consummate professional and an excellent ambassador for the Revolution on and off the field. We hope to see Matt in a Revolution shirt for years to come, and we look forward to seeing him continue to develop as a goalkeeper and a leader in our locker room.”

Turner ranks among the top-five in save percentage (73.5) and winning percentage (.667) in 2019. Turner’s improved play has given him a firm grasp on the starting role and has been selected to the MLS team of the week twice this season. If the Revolution hold on and make the playoffs, a large part of it will be due to Turner’s 7-2-4 record in 2019.

The news also comes after the New Jersey native posted a career-high nine saves against the New York Red Bulls, securing a crucial point for the Revolution. Although it was Turner’s career-high, Revolution fans have become accustomed to his saves keeping the team in games.

Turner is currently in his fourth season with the Revolution, having played the last two seasons as a starter. To date, Turner has an overall record of 14-12-13, amassing eight shutouts, which is ranked fifth all-time for Revolution goalkeepers. Before becoming a regular, the Fairfield University graduate had successful loans to the Richmond Kickers in the USL, posting seven shutouts in 27 games.

Turner is excited to continue his career with the Revolution, saying, “I’m thrilled to continue my career with the club that took a chance on me as an undrafted rookie from a small school, invested in my development, and gave me an opportunity to prove myself at this level. I can’t wait to continue playing in front of The Fort, expand my work in the community, and hopefully bring a championship to this great city that I now consider my home.”
