In a crazy day for transfer rumors, one name is catching the eyes and ears of the New England Revolution faithful.
Multiple sources, including Belgian reporter Sven Claes and American reporter Julian Cardillo, have claimed that the Revs are interested in former FC Barcelona center back Thomas Vermaelen, who is currently a free agent.
Vermaelen, who has also played for Ajax, Roma, and Arsenal, has won a total of 19 titles and cups over the course of his 16-year professional career. Over the course of 373 career appearances, Vermaelen has racked up a total of 28 goals and nine assists.
Vermaelen would be the perfect piece for the Revolution considering the Revs defensive line has not been as effective as it should be. Not only would Vermaelen be an immediate presence in center of the back line, but he’d also being an offensive threat.
At the end of the day, these are just rumors, but I would be a liar if I said I wasn’t a little bit excited when I saw this. The Revolution need to add another center back, and Vermaelen would be a solid addition for a coach the likes of Bruce Arena.
Stay tuned to The Bent Musket for updates regarding Vermaelen and other possible transfer targets.
