Friedel: Revolution will add a Designated Player

A big signing is coming.

The New England Revolution will be adding a Designated Player, according to head coach Brad Friedel.

In mid-February, Friedel told MLSSoccer.com that he intends to make an “elite, overseas” addition. On Thursday, Friedel reaffirmed that plan, saying that he’s still looking to add “one or two” players.

“We will be bringing in another Designated Player,” Friedel said during an interview with Zolak and Bertrand. “I think it’s very, very important that we sign the right one [and] not just sign one. Our top three targets that we’re looking at are still there and are still available. We’re negotiating each and every day.”

Friedel didn’t give any hints regarding the player, nor did he give a timeline for when the signing will be official. Friedel was, however, confident that news is coming.

“We will be bringing another one in,” Friedel said. “I don’t have an exact time frame on that, but hopefully sooner rather than later. But that will definitely be happening.”
