The New England Revolution are close to signing an “elite, overseas“ player, according to Brad Friedel.
On Wednesday, MLSSoccer.com’s Tom Bogert recounted a conversation that he had with Friedel. The Revs coach stated that he hopes to have a player announcement in the near future, though he didn’t give any hints as to who it might be.
Brad Friedel on another "elite, overseas" addition coming to the Revolution soon:

“I’m not going to tell you the position, I hope you understand, but it’s going well. I have a lot of relationships over in Europe and hopefully we’ll see a player coming through the door very soon"
The quote comes two weeks after the Revolution signed Spanish midfielder Carles Gil and almost three months after they inked forward Juan Fernando Caicedo. Both are expected to be big contributors in 2019.
In December, club president Brian Bilello promised 3-4 above max salary players. Both Gil and Caicedo fit that bill. Gil is a Designated Player while Caicedo’s distinction wasn’t announced at the time of his signing. Caciedo will either be a DP or have his contract paid down with TAM.
Friedel didn’t mention the position that the new signing will play. It’s our guess that he will either be a defensive midfielder, right winger, or center back.
