Michael Mancienne has signed a new contract with the New England Revolution ahead of the 2020 season.
Mancienne, 31, played 26 games since joining the Revs on Aug. 3, 2019. Largely plagued by a foot injury, the center back only made 16 appearances in 2019, though he did manage to score his first career goal.
Before linking up with the Revs, Mancienne spent his entire career in Europe. The Englishman featured for Chelsea, Wolverhampton, Queens Park Rangers, Hamburger SV, and Nottingham Forest.
The re-signing of Mancienne comes days after Jalil Anibaba was selected by Nashville SC in the Expansion Draft. Mancienne is one of the Revs’ three current options at center back with Andrew Farrell and Antonio Delamea being the others.
The most important part of this news is that Mancienne signed a “renegotiated deal.” Mancienne made $995,676 in guaranteed compensation in 2019, according the MLS Players Union. This number will likely be less in 2020.
