The New England Revolution have re-signed Brandon Bye.
Bye, 23, just competed his second season with the Revs after being drafted eighth-overall in the 2018 MLS SuperDraft. A midfielder while playing at Western Michigan University, Bye has spent most of his professional career as a defender. This season he was the first-choice right back.
In two seasons, Bye has collected 54 regular-season appearances, which includes 46 starts. He has tallied three goals and four assists during his 4,127 minutes.
Bye’s signing comes days after fellow defender DeJuan Jones re-upped with the Revolution. Both players were previously on the Reserve Roster but will now occupy spots on the Senior Roster. This was likely done to prepare for additional Homegrown or draft signings.
It will be interesting to see what the future holds for Bye. His ability to get forward has been applauded, though his crosses aren’t as accurate as you’d like from an attacking right back. Plus, his propensity to get forward often leaves space behind him.
