Jalil Anibaba is on the move after being selected by Nashville SC in Tuesday’s Expansion Draft. The New England Revolution will receive $50,000 in General Allocation Money to compensate for the loss.
Anibaba, 31, played 53 games during his two years with the Revs. The center back was known for his passionate celebrations after big tackles. On the other end of the field, he contributed one goal and three assists.
Before joining the Revs in February 2018, Anibaba played for Chicago Fire (2011-13), Seattle Sounders FC (2014), Sporting Kansas City (2015), and the Houston Dynamo (2016-17).
Club president Brian Bilello used Twitter to express his disappointment in losing Anibaba, saying, “Sad to see Jalil taken by Nashville. Was a good player for us and a great person off the field. Wishing him all the luck going forward.”
The pick makes it even more important for the Revs to sign defenders during the off-season.
