The New England Revolution have re-signed DeJuan Jones ahead of the 2020 season.
Jones, 22, made 20 regular season appearances, including 14 starts, during his rookie year. A midfielder while at Michigan State University, Jones played most of his 1,296 professional minutes as a left back. He played 90 minutes at that position during the Revs’ 1-0 loss to Atlanta United in the MLS Cup Playoffs.
It’s not a surprise that Jones will be back in Revolution colors in 2020 because his speed and tenacity make him an asset on the left side. He will likely shadow Alexander Buttner, an experienced left back who was signed during the off-season. Jones could also see time with the Revolution’s second team.
Jones will occupy a senior roster spot next year. He will need to be protected in Tuesday’s Expansion Draft. If not, the Revs run the risk of losing him to Inter Miami CF or Nashville SC.
