Everyone has an opinion on the Lee Nguyen saga, including former New England Revolution assistant coach Paul Mariner.
Mariner, who serves as a color commentator for the Revs, addressed the situation head-on during an ESPN FC segment. Here’s what he had to say:
“I think he’s being a silly boy. I think that he signed his contract, a good contract. It’s up to him and his agent to sign the deal. If he’s upset with the fact that he’s top five in stats and he’s maybe top 15-20 in payments, that’s up to him and his agent, but he signed the deal. He’s on decent money.
Mariner goes on to discuss how Jay Heaps gave Nguyen the captain’s armband only to take it off him later. The former player wonders what type of impact that had on last year’s team. Mariner concludes by predicting that Nguyen will be back to work soon enough.
