The New England Revolution have used allocation money to add French defensive midfielder Wilfried Zahibo, according to a team press release.
Zahibo, 24, has plenty of European experience, having accumulated over 10,00 minutes during his seven-year career in La Liga (Spain) and Ligue 1 (France). He began his career with AC Ajaccio before stints with Fuenlabrada and Valencia. His most recent stop was with Gimnastic, where he made 24 appearances while helping them to a first-place finish in the 2016-17 Copa Catalunya, a tournament organized by the Catalan Football Federation.
“As we continue to add players to the 2018 roster, we believe Wilfried is a player who will improve the quality of our team,” Revolution General Manager Michael Burns said. “He is a player capable of impacting matches from his central midfield role and we look forward to integrating him into our team as soon as possible.”
Zahibo is a front-runner to start in the middle of the park, possibly alongside Scott Caldwell. Zahibo is right-footed and has size (6-2, 175 lbs.) that makes him a natural ball-winner.
Zahibo will be added to the active roster once he receives his International Transfer Certificate (ITC) and P-1 Visa.
