The New England Revolution will add defensive midfielder Cristhian Machado, according to a report from

Machado, 27, is currently under contract with C.D. Jorge Wilstermann but will join the Revs via a two-year loan. This will be the second loan of Machado’s career, as he previously spent time with the Sport Boys.

The move reunites Machado with Revolution assistant coach Marcelo Neveleff. Neveleff coached Wilstermann in 2011-12, helping the club win the 2011 Copa Libertadores. It was during this time that Neveleff met Machado.

Machado knows a bit about the U.S. soccer landscape, as the Bolivian wore the colors of the Fort Lauderdale Strikers (NASL) for six months in 2015.

The Revs are presently short on defensive midfielders with Gershon Koffie returning to Hammerby IF now that his loan has expired and Xavier Kouassi’s future being put in limbo after his option was declined. Depending on the formation that new coach Brad Friedel wants to employ, Machado could start in the midfield alongside Scott Caldwell.
