The New England Revolution are looking to sign defender Gabriel Somi, according to various reports out of Sweden.

Somi, 26, has spent his entire career in Sweden, having played for Örebro Syrianska IF (2009-11), Syrianska FC (2012-15), and Östersunds FK (2016-present). He’s now looking to make a move and MLS is one of the rumored destinations. He’s also being courted by European teams, most notably Hearts FC of Scotland.

If Somi joins the Revolution, he’d likely feature as a left back. This would put him in direct competition with veteran Chris Tierney, whose option was picked up in November. It’s worth noting that Somi has played as a midfielder in the past.

Somi is at an ideal age for the Revs, as he’s had some experience but still has plenty of years ahead of him. Furthermore, his stats show that he likes to attack, having amassed 28 goals in 167 appearances.

Reports indicate that Somi would like to have his next contract signed by Christmas.
