Former New England Revolution defender A.J. Soares is no longer on trial with Orlando City SC, according to SB Nation sister site The Mane Land.

Last week, ESPN's Jeffery Carlisle reported that Soares was training with the Lions. The 27-year-old has been with Viking FK of Norway since leaving the Revs at the end of the 2014 season. With his 18-month contract set to expire soon, Soares is now searching for his next club.

Any type of return to MLS would include the Revolution as the club hold his rights after making him a bonafide offer. This means that the team could re-sign the veteran or trade him elsewhere. A similar situation was seen in 2014 when the Revs traded Michael Parkhurst's rights to Columbus Crew SC in exchange for the fourth overall selection in that year's MLS SuperDraft and allocation money.

In sum, Soares made 108 appearances in four seasons after being drafted by the Revs in 2011. He contributed six goals and one assist while being a consistent presence along the back line.
