It looks as though the New England Revolution will be adding a Designated Player.
On Tuesday, Revolution president Brian Bilello tweeted that the club "completed a DP signing this week." Bilello didn't reveal the player's name, but did state that the deal was a pre-contract, which might indicate that the player won't be available until a later date.
Completed a DP signing this week. Pre-contract, should be able to share more details in the next few weeks. More signings still to come.

Bilello previously hinted at a big-name signing, saying that "this season will likely be about a few bigger moves than a lot of smaller ones." This comment came a week after Bilello stated that the club was "looking to add 1-3 top of the roster type players."
The Revs currently have 19 of 28 roster spots filled. The team is set to open preseason on Friday, Jan. 22.
