The Zak Whitbread rumors have resurfaced as the defender was at Revolution practice on Friday, according to John Connolly of the Boston Herald.

The 31-year-old Whitbread has been linked to the New England Revolution since early August. The two parties have obviously moved forward in negotiations as the team welcomed Whitbread to training. The Texas native is currently without a club after spending time with Millwall, Norwich City, Leicester City and Derby County.

The Revs have until Sept. 15 to make a decision on Whitbread. After that, rosters are frozen as the league enters the final stretch of the season.

Whitbread is one of many defenders that have been connected to the Revolution in recent weeks as Will Packwood and Alexander Madlung were also rumored targets. Adding Whitbread, or any defender, could be an important move as the Revolution need depth along the back line. The only center backs behind starters Jose Goncalves and Andrew Farrell are Jermaine Jones and London Woodberry.
