The New England Revolution might make a summer move after all.
Zak Whitbread is the latest name to be linked to the Revs, according to Greg Seltzer at No Short Corners. The American defender has spent his entire career in Europe, starting with Liverpool before spending time with Millwall, Norwich City, Leicester City, and Derby County. The native of Houston, TX could now be eyeing a return home.
That said, the 31-year-old center back could stay in Europe, a place he's been for the past 13 seasons. Sheffield United was said to be interested in Whitbread recently, but the deal has apparently fallen through.
It the Revs are interested in adding Whitbread, it doesn't have to be done before the transfer window closes today since the defender is a free agent. Seltzer reports that the Revs are still in the early stages of negotiations, though they are beyond formalities.
The Revolution's search for defense help has included trials with Brazilian Renato Silva and American Will Packwood. The team was also recently tied to German Alexander Madlung. Adding Whitbread seems logical as long as he's proven that he's over past injury woes.
