Guatemalan midfielder Marvin Ceballos has signed with the New England Revolution. Credible sources have reported to The Bent Musket that the deal is done as of today (Friday July 3), and will likely be announced next week.
Ceballos began a trial with the Revolution in mid-June with reports surfacing later that month claiming that a move was imminent. That move has now occurred.
The Revolution organization has not yet been reached for comment.
Ceballos joins the Revs looking for a challenge. His former team, Comunicaciones, has consistently been one of the best in Guatemala's top flight. Described as a "strong, workhorse," the 23-year-old will be competing for minutes with the likes of Diego Fagundez and Kelyn Rowe. It's worth noting that Ceballos is comfortable on the flank and up top.
From a Revs perspective, the move proves that the team is always looking to improve. Attackers aren't exactly an area of need right now, but team officials clearly saw potential in Ceballos. Regardless of this signing, the Revolution will need to address defensive needs during the summer transfer window.
