The New England Revolution are linked to German center back Alexander Madlung, according to Kicker.
Madlung began his career with Hertha BSC before spending seven years with VfL Wolfsburg. He was most recently with Eintracht Frankfurt after signing a one-and-a-half year contract on Jan. 2, 2014.
The 6'4'' defender is effective in the air, having scored multiple goals at every club he's been. He also has international experience, including two caps with the senior team.
The Revs do appear to have competition for the free agent as Championship side Bolton Wanderers have inquired about Madlung. There's also the possibility that Madlung could return to Hertha.
The Madlung rumor is certainly an intriguing one as the Revs are in need of defensive depth. The team currently employs seven full-time defenders, though Jermaine Jones can deputize there if needed.
The Revolution trialed defenders Will Packwood and Renato Silva this season but neither player signed a contract.
