Goalkeeper Brad Knighton has been sent to the Richmond Kickers (USL) on a one-game loan, according to a press release from the New England Revolution. Knighton will be available for tonight’s game against the Charleston Battery before returning to New England on Thursday.
Knighton, who arrived in South Carolina on Tuesday afternoon, has made one appearance for the Revs this season, serving as the backstop in the club’s 4-2 road loss to Sporting Kansas City on May 20. He has amassed 38 regular season MLS appearances since 2007, spending time with the Revolution, Philadelphia Union, and Vancouver Whitecaps FC. In 2011, he was with the Carolina RailHawks of NASL.
Knighton isn’t the first Revs goalkeeper to be loaned to Richmond this season as Trevor Spangenberg has played two games with the Kickers. Spangenberg went 1-0-1 against FC Montreal and Charleston with 12 saves and two allowed goals.
The Revs begin their US Open Cup campaign on Wednesday, Jun. 17 with a home date against the Charlotte Independence (USL), a match that could feature Knighton in the starting XI. Before then, Knighton and the Revolution host the Chicago Fire on Saturday, Jun. 13.
