Transfers and Rumors 2015: Revolution linked to Newcastle midfielder

Could Cheick Tioté be heading to New England?

The New England Revolution are eyeing Newcastle United defensive midfielder Cheick Tioté, according to The Sun.

Tioté has been with Newcastle since 2010, serving as a major contributor in his first four seasons with the club. The 29-year-old saw a dip in playing time during the 2014/15 season as he only made twelve appearances while struggling with a knee injury. Tioté appears to be back to full fitness as he recently contributed 90 minutes against Bournemouth.

Tioté, who has also played for Ivory Coast's national team, has 18 months left on his contact. The Revs are reportedly interested in signing Tioté ahead of the 2016 MLS season.

The rumor is an interesting one, especially since Jermaine Jones' future is uncertain. Although he's not as marketable as Jones, Tioté is a younger player with impressive pedigree. Tioté has won championships in Belgian with Anderlecht and the Netherlands with FC Twente. He also helped the Ivory Coast win the Africa Cup of Nations in 2015.
