Revolution Recall Alec Sundly from Rochester Rhinos

New England has called defensive midfielder Alec Sundly back to the big club ahead of tonight's Open Cup match with Richmond.

The New England Revolution announced this morning that they have recalled rookie midfielder Alec Sundly from their USL Pro affiliate, the Rochester Rhinos. Sundly has been a regular contributor to the Rhinos during this season's long-term loan, appearing in 12 of 14 matches, primarily as a central midfielder.

The move was made ahead of Wednesday night's Open Cup clash with the Richmond Kickers. The Rhinos had an Open Cup match against D.C. United on Tuesday night, but Sundly was already gone and thus is not cap-tied. A betting man would be lead to believe that Sundly is a candidate then to either start or appear for the Revs against Richmond tonight. At the very least, the Revs seem to be thinking ahead for depth if they advance in the tournament.

Sundly himself flew out of Rochester on Sunday after playing 28 minutes for the Rhinos on Saturday. However, given the haphazard travel schedule that is inimical to USL Pro, the rookie would probably be good to start, let alone get some substitute minutes.

New England and Richmond kick off at 7 PM ET. There will be an embedded live feed and open thread here on The Bent Musket. Check out our match preview, as well.
