Three bold off-season predictions for the Revolution

The Revs will sign a DP and two more predictions.

MLS Cup is Saturday and soon after we’ll see plenty of transactions throughout the league. With this in mind, here are three bold predictions for the New England Revolution.

  1. The Revs will make a trade during Sunday’s half-day trade window. On Sunday, teams will be allowed to make trades between 9 am and 1 pm ET. It’s a brief window, but I wouldn’t be surprised if the Revs make a move, especially if Cody Cropper, Kelyn Rowe, or Juan Agudelo (free agent) aren’t in their long-term plans. Remember, there’s an Expansion Draft this year, as FC Cincinnati is entering the fold. It would be smart for the Revs to move some of their unwanted assets before that draft.
  2. The Revs won’t lose anyone in the Expansion Draft. This is the least bold of my predictions, but I’m going with it as a safety (watch me be wrong on this one too). With the Revs able to protect 11 players, I don’t think there will be much available for Cincinnati. That said, I didn’t see Minnesota United going after Femi Hollinger-Janzen, so who knows?
  3. The Revs will sign at least one Designated Player. The Revs parted ways with Kei Kamara before the 2018 season, which left Claude Dielna as the only DP on the roster. Despite starting the season as the captain, the center back fell out of favor and has since left the club. The Revs have a lot of resources to play with and they have to use them if they want to be competitive. So, they’re going to sign a DP, right? Right?
