Former New England Revolution defender A.J. Soares has taken some time to fully break into Viking FK's starting lineup due to injury, but it appears that his patience and persistence has finally paid off. The 26-year-old center-back came onto the field in the 45th minute and managed to score for his new club in Norwegian Cup play against Varegg in the 90th minute.
As seen above, Soares moved forward from a deep lying position to strike home into the far corner, netting what appears to be the 9th goal in a complete demolition of Varegg. The defender scored six goals in his 108 appearances with the Revolution, the majority of which came by way of headed finishes through set pieces or corner kicks.
With Soares' first overseas goal in the books and more playing time slowly mounting up, he will surely look to become a consistent figure in the starting 11. His first chance to do just that will occur on May 10th when Viking take on Odds BK in Tippeliagaen play.
