The last time the Revolution hired a head coach, Diego Fagundez had yet to celebrate his 17th birthday and Andrew Farrell still played for the Louisville Cardinals. Fast forward six years, and the Revs have a coaching vacancy once more.

Immediately after reports surfaced that New England had parted ways with Jay Heaps, speculation began about who would fill the void. Fans quickly volunteered former Revolution and USMNT midfielder Steve Ralston, a current assistant with the San Jose Earthquakes, as one option. Long-time club captain Shalrie Joseph emerged as a second option based on the recommendation of A.J. Soares, another Revs alumnus.

Is either former player a viable option? Or should the Revs look for a replacement with a history of head coaching success?
