Boston Breakers Midfielder Lianne Sanderson Wins "Musketeer of the Month" Award

In April, Breakers midfielder Lianne Sanderson made NWSL headlines, scoring a pair of goals while adding a crafty assist. Her efforts helped win our first-ever "Musketeer of the Month" award, issued to the month's most outstanding player.

An abysmal start to the 2014 season met its match when Sanderson erupted for two goals and one assist on April 27, guiding her club to a welcomed 3-2 victory. The creative attacker earned NWSL Player of the Week honors for her breakout performance, reminding Breakers supporters of an exceptional (yet quiet) 2013 campaign. Durkin has seemingly given Sanderson a green light to roam the pitch at will; in April, she took advantage, bagging a pair of goals while threatening several others. The English International has solidified her role as the team's premier playmaker, elite finisher and possibly, future face of the franchise.

What's Next?

We predicted a standout season for Sanderson, and, through the first month of the season, she has answered the call. So, what's next for the attack-minded midfielder?

In May, we expect more of the same, which should translate into more goals. When wide midfielder Kristie Mewis returns from a high ankle sprain, look out: Sanderson will pair with Mewis and Heather O'Reilly to form one of the league's most potent attacks. Add capable finisher Lisa De Vanna to the mix and Tom Durkin just may have found the goal-happy attack he worked so hard to build.
