Breakers Off-Season Report: Tracking the Coaches, Opening the Archives

With the Breakers in full offseason mode, Boston's biggest stars and contributors are lending their coaching talents to area educational institutions.

Now two months into the NWSL off-season, the Breakers have moved beyond the walls of Dillboy Stadium, using the freedom of fall to invest in several collegiate (and high school) clubs. The Bent Musket tracked down the team's newest coaches to report on their offseason coaching activities.

Alyssa Naeher, Volunteer Coach, Providence College Friars

As a four-year starter for the Penn State Nittany Lions, Naeher earned 50 career wins and 24 career shutouts, receiving First-Team All-American honors in 2007 and 2008. During her junior season, Naeher led the U-20 U.S. National Team to a World Cup victory over Korea DPR, surrendering just one goal in tournament play.

Kia McNeill, Assistant Coach, Boston College Eagles

McNeill served as a model of consistency during her tenure with Boston College, playing in 86 consecutive matches as a routine starter. Once a talented forward (24 career goals, 13 career assists), McNeill moved into a defensive role during her senior season, solidifying a back line that allowed just 0.48 goals per game.

Maddy Evans, Assistant Coach, Massachusetts Institute of Technology Beavers

Before joining the Breakers during the 2013 NWSL College Draft, Evans created a legacy with the Penn State Nittany Lions, scoring the second fastest goal in team history (1:02). The Pennsylvania native benefitted from a strong senior campaign, earning recognition as a team captain while receiving All-Big Ten Second Team honors.

Katie Schoepfer, Assistant Coach, Buckingham Browne & Nichols Knights (Day School)

As a Connecticut high school standout, Schoepfer scored 157 career goals and added 47 career assists, records that rank first and second, respectively, in state history. The Waterford High graduate earned Connecticut Player of the Year Honors and NSCAA All American honors during her four-year tenure with the Lancers, capturing the attention of several top-tier colleges. In 2006, Schoepfer joined the Penn State Nittany Lions, where she contributed 48 goals in 92 career appearances.
