Revolution II defender Ryan Spaulding continued his hot streak as his efforts on both sides of the ball helped Revs II secure a 1-1 draw against South Georgia Tormenta FC.
Spaulding made his nineteenth appearance and seventeenth start in 2021 as he played a full 90 minutes in Sunday’s draw. Spaulding’s most significant contribution came in the 23rd minute as he was in the right place at the right time as Damian Rivera’s deflected cross would fall right to him as he slotted it past the keeper and into the back of the net.
Spaulding’s 23rd-minute goal was his third goal in 2021 and his fourth career goal with Revolution II.
Spaulding was also able to put the work in on defense as he was able to block shots and, at times, shut down the Tormenta offense.
Spaulding’s efforts in Sunday’s draw earned him a spot on the USL League One Team of the Week for Week 22. Spaulding’s most recent selection is the 22-year-olds sixth selection to the Team of the Week in the 2021 season and his seventh since joining Revolution II.
When talking about Ryan Spaulding’s efforts on offense, head coach Clint Peay said Spaulding is “an athletic guy, he’s decent on the dribble, he’s able to go at guys, he can shoot from distance, and I think tonight was a scenario where he was able to play a little bit of combination play and find himself kind of on the back end of the cross. Kudos to his work rate and effort tonight.”.
With Spaulding’s good play and continuing growth, I think a move to the main roster may be imminent for the young defender.
