Carles Gil trained off to the side during Friday’s practice, according to head coach Bruce Arena.

On Aug. 3, The Bent Musket reported that Gil could miss three-plus weeks with a sports hernia. One day later, Arena told Zolak & Bertrand, “[Gil] has a little bit of a muscle strain. He’s going to be fine. We thought it was going to be a little more severe than that but it’s not.” He later added that any time he missed would be “short term.”

Gil didn’t make the game-day roster for that night’s scoreless draw against Nashville SC. Arena provided little insight regarding the omission in his post-game press conference, saying, “I have no updates on that now. We’ll know more later in the week.”

Two days later, Arena was asked if he had an update on the injury or a timeline for return. He said, “None of that except for the fact [Gil] looked fine moving around the field today.” He later revealed that Gil was working off to the side.

Arena concluded by saying, “We’re watching Carles closely and we’ll move him along appropriately.”

The Revs welcome the Philadelphia Union to Gillette Stadium on Sunday. It’s unknown if Gil will be available for the game.
