After weeks of voting, the Major League Soccer All-Star roster was announced ahead of the MLS vs Liga MX All-Star match on August 25th.
Amongst the list of 28 MLS players are four members of the New England Revolution roster. Goaltender Matt Turner, midfielders Carles Gil and Tajon Buchanan, and forward Gustavo Bou earned a spot on Bob Bradley’s MLS All-Star Squad.
Goalkeeper Matt Turner has started 13 matches between the post in 2021, where he’s accumulated forty-five saves and five clean sheets. Runner-up in last season’s Goaltender of the Year race, Turner has reemerged in 2021 as a strong contender for the award.
Under Matt Turner, the Revs have amounted a 7-2-4 record. A record that has kept them atop the Eastern Conference and in the Supporters’ Shield race as well. Turner’s inclusion to the MLS is the first for the Park Ridge, New Jersey-native.
Turner also becomes the first Revolution goalkeeper named to the squad since Matt Reis’ addition in the 2008 squad.
After a breakout performance in the 2021 MLS Cup Playoffs, Tajon Buchanan entered 2021 looking to keep his hot streak rolling. The 22-year-old midfielder has made 13 appearances with ten starts in 2021. The Brampton, Ontario-native has registered three goals and three assists over 823 minutes played. Buchanan’s inclusion in this year’s All-Star squad is the young midfielders’ first selection.
Carles Gil has come in blazing hot into the 2021 season. After an Achilles surgery kept him out for an extended period in 2020, the Valencia, Spain-native looked to get back to his offensive production and get back he has. Through 17 appearances, Gil has racked up a league-leading fifteen assists along with two goals. Gil’s inclusion in the squad is the midfielder’s first appearance.
Both Buchanan and Gil become the first Revolution midfielders to be named to the MLS All-Star squad since Wilfried Zahibo’s addition to the 2018 squad.
Gustavo Bou has continued to flash his offensive prowess in 2021 as La Pantera has notched ten goals and three assists over sixteen appearances. Bou’s inclusion in the All-Star squad is the Argentinian’s first selection.
Revolution fans can tune into FS1 on Wednesday, August 25th at 9 PM EST to watch the 2021 MLS All-Star squad as they take on the Liga MX All-Stars.
