On the heels of MLS All-Star weekend, the United States and Canadian Men’s National Teams released their rosters for upcoming World Cup Qualifiers. An announcement that had Revs fans excited as two more Revolution players were named to national team rosters.

Just 24 hours after winning the 2021 MLS All-Star game in a penalty shootout and winning All-Star MVP, Revolution goalkeeper Matt Turner was selected by Gregg Berhalter to represent the United States in their upcoming qualifiers against El Salvador, Canada, and Honduras.

Turner raised non-Revs fan’s eyebrows as he had a stellar performance for the USMNT in their Gold Cup run this summer. He appeared in all six Gold Cup matches, where he saved a total of 26 saves while only allowing one goal.

Along with helping secure the 2021 Gold Cup championship for the United States, Turner would be recognized for his performance in the tournament as he won the Best Goalkeeper award.

Throughout seven appearances for the USMNT, Turner holds a perfect 7-0-0 record with a staggering six shutouts. Turner made his debut on January 31st, 2021, in the US’s 7-0 trampling of Trinidad & Tobago. Turner has continued to be a brick wall for the Revolution as he’s made 17 appearances with four clean sheets and 61 saves.

Turner and the USMNT will open World Cup Qualifying action on Thursday, September 2nd at 10:05 PM EST. After playing El Salvador, they face Canada on Sunday, September 5th at 8:00 PM EST. The USMNT closes out this portion of qualifiers on Wednesday, September 8th, against Honduras at 10:05 PM EST.

Turner was not the only Revolution player named to a National Team roster. Midfielder, and future Club Brugge star, Tajon Buchanan was selected by John Herdman to represent Team Canada during their qualifiers against Honduras, United States, and El Salvador.

Buchanan’s meteoric rise came during the 2021 Gold Cup as he appeared in all 5 of Canada’s Gold Cup matches. The 22-year-old midfielder clocked in 165 minutes along with a goal and two assists during all five of Canada’s Gold Cup Matches.

Although Team Canada did not make a deep run in the Gold Cup tournament, Buchanan would be commemorated for his performance as he was awarded the Gold Cup Youth Player award.

Buchanan has a combined nine caps for the Canadian National team along with six starts. He also has secured one goal and four assists with Team Canada.

Since being selected by the Revs with the 9th overall pick in the 2019 draft, Buchanan has made 50 appearances with 28 starts. Over three seasons with the Revs, Buchanan has netted eight goals and eight assists.

Buchanan and Team Canada open World Cup Qualifiers on September 2nd as they take on Honduras at 8:05 PM EST. They then face the United States on September 5th at 8:00 PM EST. Canada closes this round of qualifiers on September 8th as they take on El Salvador at 7:30 PM EST.

Buchanan and Turner become the second and third Revs players to be called into action for upcoming international duty. Just weeks ago, forward Adam Buksa was selected to represent his native Poland for their upcoming qualifiers.

With their selections, it appears that Buchanan, Buksa, and Turner will miss out on the Revs September 3rd MLS match against the Philadelphia Union at 7:30 PM EST.
