Bruce Arena believes that allowing Carles Gil to rehab in Spain is a “good decision.”

On Thursday, Arena spoke to Zolak and Bertrand about Gil returning to his native country, news that was first reported by The Bent Musket. The New England Revolution head coach and sporting director stated that the move was done with the player’s best interest in mind.

“First of all, he’ll get a lot more attention [in Spain],” Arena said. “Our staff here obviously is involved with our team as well. There’s a specialist that worked with him when he was coming back from his Archilles surgery last year. We think it’s a good decision. He’ll get good care there and he’ll be back in a short period of time.”

On Aug. 3, The Bent Musket reported that Gil would be out three-plus weeks with a sports hernia. The team has yet to give a timetable for Gil’s return.
