Days after advancing to the Gold Cup Semifinals with Team Canada, interest in Revolution midfielder Tajon Buchanan seems to have skyrocketed. Reports indicate multiple European clubs have submitted offers to the New England Revolution for the 22-year-old.
The latest reports on Buchanan come courtesy of TSN’s Matthew Scianitti. Revs fans will remember Scianitti as the person who initially broke the news of Ligue 1-side Lens having an interest in the Canadian.
According to Scianitti’s Twitter, FC Lens still has an interest in Buchanan. Scianitti’s report also confirms that there are other suitors for the Revs midfielder. According to the TSN reporter, Ligue 1-side FC Lens, Bundesliga-side FC Augsburg, and Belgian First League-side Club Brugge have all submitted offers to the New England Revolution.
According to Tom Bogert, the Revolution rejected a bid for Buchanan by FC Lens. That offer was rumored to be around the $3.5 million mark. It appears FC Lens went back to the drawing board and proposed a new offer as Homme du Match reported the French club had upped the offer to $4 million.
There is still no word on how much Augsburg or Brugge have offered for Buchanan.
Another piece of information Scianitti dropped in his tweet was that this is more than likely not the end of offers for the Revolution. According to Scianitti, “more German and Portuguese clubs are preparing offers.”.
After successful stints with the Canadian National Team and the New England Revolution, it seems the question isn’t if Buchanan will be packing his bags for Europe, rather when.
With the Revs taking a commanding lead in the Eastern Conference, I highly doubt we will see Buchanan leave before the end of the 2021 season. Yet we could see the bright Canadian depart for Europe upon the end of the season.
