Carles Gil becomes 2nd straight Revs MLS Player of the Week

It really isn’t that surprising with how great Carles Gil performed on Wednesday night, but the New England Revolution midfielder has been named MLS Player of the Week for Week 9.

Gil tallied three assists against the Red Bulls and they were some beauties. Particularly an early assist to Tajon Buchanan where Gil flicked the ball forward was quite impressive. In second place came his third assist of the night where Gil jumpstarted to counter-attack and assisted on Gustavo Bou’s fourth goal of the season.

It’s clear that soccer fans around the country have taken notice. For Revolution fans, it might seem like an easy decision to give Gil the award, but he had some stiff competition, especially considering he wasn’t able to score a goal. While goals might look good, it’s clear to see just how much of an impact he has on New England’s performance.

Carlos Vela had a goal and an assist in LAFC’s victory over FC Dallas (who happens to be the Revs next opponent. Also, Nani tallied a goal and two assists in a blowout of the San Jose Earthquakes.

Gil has had truly an amazing season. In 10 games he has tallied a goal and an MLS leading 10 assists. He also leads MLS in successful crosses, successful dribbles, and key passes.

But Gil wasn’t the only Revolution player to make their way on Week 9’s Team of the Week, DeJuan Jones also got honored with a spot after scoring his first goal of the season and just the second of his career.

New England doesn’t have any time to look back at Gil’s amazing performance as they face FC Dallas in the Lone Star State on Sunday evening.

If Gil has a similar performance, there is no doubt that New England will walk away with another three points and Gil will continue to rack up player of the week awards.
