Revolution fans rejoiced Monday morning after the New England Revolution announced that midfielder Carles Gil has signed a contract extension through the 2024 MLS season.
Revolution fans will remember the subject of Carles Gil’s contract extension was brought up by none other than club legend Taylor Twellman, who hinted at the re-signing during the broadcast of the May 16th matchup against the Columbus Crew.
When talking about re-signing with the Revs, Gil said “Since I arrived in Boston more than two years ago, this city has become my home and the fans and my teammates have become my family,”
Since joining the Revs in January of 2019, the midfield maestro has put on a dominant performance and has been a huge impact on the Revs offensive efforts. Gil has made a total of 49 appearances for the Revs where he has scored 11 goals and bagged 20 assists.
Head Coach and Sporting Director Bruce Arena touched upon Carles’ impact on the Revs by saying “We are pleased Carles will continue to be a member of the Revolution in the years to come. He’s an elite player who has proven himself to be one of the best in Major League Soccer. “His consistency and productivity on field as well as his professionalism and leadership in the locker room are an important part of our team and he will be a key piece in helping the team compete for championships in the years to come.”
It’s no secret that Gil has been a key factor in the Revolution’s offense since joining the club. With the Spanish midfielder is locked in until the end of 2024, there is one goal to cross off the list, and that is bringing an MLS Cup home to Foxboro.
Gil highlighted this monumental goal after re-signing by saying “Playing for the New England Revolution has been one of the highlights of my career and it is my ultimate goal to bring an MLS Cup championship home to our supporters.” With Gil in the picture for the foreseeable future, the Revs are slowly approaching that milestone.
With reassurance that Carles Gil will remain on this Revolution squad for years to come, Revolution fans wait in anticipation for the day where we see this team hoist up the MLS Cup.
