Without Carles Gil, the New England Revolution struggled to get anything going on the attack. Once he returned to the pitch it was like New England was given a shot of adrenaline. Heading into 2021, Bruce Arena expects another great season out of Gil.
In preseason friendlies Gil has shown his skill. He is great on the ball and was linked up with Gustavo Bou from the first minute of play out in LA.
Gil is a playmaker who jumpstarts New England’s attack. Having him for an entire season should help the Revs have another successful season.
After reaching the Eastern Conference Finals, New England can only improve by making the MLS Cup final. It seems that Gil has the right mindset entering the 2021 season and has trophy aspirations for the club according to Andrew Farrell.
On the latest episode of the Far Post Podcast, Andrew Farrell says that Carles Gil told him, “I’m going to win you a trophy this year.” #NERevs

If the Revs are going to win a trophy, they will need Gil at the top of his game. It’s safe to say that New England’s Head Coach and Sporting Director is confident in the Spaniard.
Arena said, “He plays consistently well. He’s a very good player. He’s certainly not perfect, they’re going to be — not every day is a good day. We can’t expect Carles [Gil] to be responsible for carrying our team throughout 34 games, but I think you’re going to see a player that plays at a really high standard, and we could argue could be among the best players in the league.”
Arena isn’t the only one who believes the 28-year-old is one of the best players in MLS. Matt Turner has reiterated his stance on the matter this preseason.
Gil will no doubt be a major reason that New England competes for a trophy, but if they actually want to lift one, the captain will need some help. He can’t do it all on his own.
