Carles Gil on Gustavo Bou: “It’s a pleasure playing alongside him for another season”

Carles Gil and Gustavo Bou are the straw that stirs the drink that is the New England Revolution.

When it comes to Gustavo Bou and Carles Gil, the two Designated Players seem to operate on an elevated wavelength. It’s as if they know where one another is going to be without even looking.

It was evident from the first minute of preseason that Gil and Bou had a strong connection. They were connecting on some great passes and both players managed to score goals.

The Revolution missed Gil mightily in 2020. He was only able to play in 10 games due to injury and that includes both the regular season and the playoffs.

While this impacted the entire club this also effected Bou. The Argentinian had to make some magic on his own without Gil. After scoring nine goals in 14 games the previous season, Bou was only able to score five goals in 18 games for New England in 2020.

But with Gil healthy in 2021, the sky seems to be the limit for the duo as well as the entire club. On Thursday, the captain of the New England Revolution was asked about his relationship with Bou.

Gil said, “Since [Gustavo Bou] arrived here it was clear that we had good chemistry. We find one another on the field easily. It’s a pleasure playing alongside him for another season. He’s the type of player that finds space well. He knows how to find the gaps where he can attack with the ball and be dangerous. We connect off the field just as well. It helps that we speak the same language, we both speak Spanish. We have a very good relationship.”

Every player seems to do better when Gil is on the field but it’s clear that Bou and the Spaniard have a special connection. Saturday night will be their first chance to make an impact as the Revs open the 2021 season against the Chicago Fire.
