Since being selected with the 9th pick in the 2019 MLS SuperDraft, midfielder Tajon Buchanan has been devoted to putting in the work and looks to do anything for this New England Revolution squad, but could that be changing soon?
As Tajon and Team Canada entered CONCACAF Olympic Qualifiers in March, it was being reported that “several European clubs” would be watching the 22-year-old midfielder throughout the competition. Buchanan would appear in all three of Canada’s matchups in the group stage and their semifinals defeat to Mexico. Throughout Olympic Qualifying competition, Buchanan clocked in over 350 minutes and scored two goals.
In a tweet sent out by TSN reporter Matthew Scianitti on Thursday, it was stated that TSN has learned that global giants Juventus, PSV Eindhoven, Sporting Lisbon, and Red Bull Salzburg interests in the young Canadian have risen as they believe Buchanan “has lots of potential at right back.”.
Revs fans saw a glimpse of that potential as the midfielder was used at the right back position during the Revs memorable run in the 2020 MLS Cup playoffs. During his time at right back, Buchanan appeared in all four of the Revs playoff games where he clocked in over 270 minutes and scored one goal. More importantly, Buchanan was a big part of the Revs defense during their playoff run which brought them to the Eastern Conference Finals.
During his two seasons with the Revs, Buchanan has made 33 appearances with 15 starts where he clocked in 1,475 minutes with two goals and four assists.
Although it seems the interest in Buchanan is rising at some of the top clubs in the world, Revs Sporting Director and Head Coach Bruce Arena commented on the matter by stating that there has been no communications with European clubs about Buchanan. In Arena’s own words, “That’s the honest truth.”
Although it appears Tajon will remain with the Revs for the time being, it appears that some of the world’s biggest clubs will be keeping an eye on the young Canadian and may look to complete a move in the near future.
