The New England Revolution are coming off a great performance in the 2020 MLS Cup Playoffs. The club was just a win away from playing in the MLS Cup. That confidence seems to be rolling into 2021.
Last season was all about the emergence of Tajon Buchanan and Henry Kessler as well as Carles Gil and Teal Bunbury lighting up the scoresheet.
There was reason to be excited after the play of New England in 2020, but they still went out and made moves. The acquisitions of Wilfrid Kaptoum and Arnór Traustason signal that New England means business and that they aren’t satisfied with making the Eastern Conference Finals.
Throughout the many recent media availabilities from Revs players, it’s clear that expectations are high and that this team has championship aspirations.
But after 2020, the Revs also have confidence. Brandon Bye made that clear on Monday.
He said, “Yeah, I think there’s a confidence with us. Moving forward, I think we realized that we can play with the top teams in league. I think we’ve always thought that, but with the run that we made last year it solidified us a little bit in the fact that we now know that we can we can play with anybody and to be fighting for those top spots this year and ultimately trying to win a trophy.”
With this confidence and these expectations, fans will jump on the club if they struggle out of the gate. The Revs seem to have all the pieces they just need to perform well on the pitch.
Hopefully, the confidence that Bye mentioned will turn into great play and lead New England to a successful 2021 season.
