Tuesday was a day filled with a lot of news. Besides MLS announcing the new start date for the 2021 season, the New England Revolution also announced the numbers that players will be wearing this year.
MLS originally had the start of the 2021 regular season taking place on April 3rd, but due to CBA negotiations the league has been forced to move that date back. Now the 2021 season will begin on April 17th.
Fans will have to wait even longer for the Revs to return to the field. Hopefully the two extra weeks will go by fast.
But Revolution fans also got some more personal news. We know what numbers the squad will be rocking in 2021.
Most of the numbers are staying the same with players such as Andrew Farrell, Scott Caldwell, and Teal Bunbury keeping things the same.
Most eyes will be on the new arrivals to the club. Wilfrid Kaptoum will be donning #5, Emmanuel Boateng will wear #11, A.J DeLaGarza takes Alexander Buttner’s 28, Christian Mafla will be rocking #32, and finally Earl Edwards Jr. will wear #36.
An interesting note is that Matt Turner decided to stay with #30 instead of switching to #1. After his performance in 2020, it’s hard to blame him for not wanting to change anything.
Also of note is that Collin Verfuth and Damian Rivera were among the players listed so it seems as though these guys will not be down with Revs II (at least for now).
So now we know when the 2021 MLS season will begin and what numbers will be worn by members of the New England Revolution. It might seem far away, but the Revolution will be playing games sooner than fans think.
