As the Revolution prepare to close out their historic regular season on Sunday as they host Inter Miami, a trio of Revs players received call-ups to their international clubs for upcoming World Cup Qualifiers.
Throughout the 2021 season, goalkeeper Matt Turner has been a factor in the Revs success. The Park Ridge, New Jersey-native has 27 appearances for the Revolution in 2021, where he’s strung together five clean sheets and 98 saves.
Turner’s notoriety outside New England began to rise towards the beginning of 2021. The then 26-year-old keeper would make his international debut in a 7-0 shutout victory against Trinidad and Tobago on January 31st. Turner kept a clean sheet alive after saving a penalty kick from Alvin Jones in the 66th minute.
Turner has made 12 appearances for the USMNT, where he’s secured nine wins with eight shutout performances. The Revolution goalkeeper will look to add more under his belt as the USMNT returns to CONCACAF World Cup Qualifying action November 12th as they host Mexico at 9:00 PM EST on ESPN 2. The US will also travel to Kingston, Jamaica, to take on the Reggae Boyz on November 16th at 5:00 PM EST on Paramount+. Crucial points are up for grabs as the second-placed United States will look to keep themselves in a top-three spot of the Octagonal in hopes of qualifying for the 2022 FIFA World Cup.
Midfielder Arnór Traustason will make his return to the Icelandic National Team for the first time since May of 2021. Traustason holds forty caps and five goals to his name as he most recently took the pitch for Iceland in their 4-1 victory over Lichtenstein on March 31st.
Throughout the 2021 season, the Icelandic midfielder has made 28 appearances for the Revolution while notching two goals and seven assists. Fifth-placed Iceland returns to World Cup Qualifying action on Thursday, November 11th, as they travel to take on second-placed Romania at 2:45 PM EST on ESPN+. Iceland will close out UEFA World Cup Qualifying action on Sunday, November 14th, as they take on third-placed North Macedonia at noon EST on ESPN+.
Midfielder Tajon Buchanan will look to build off the international success he has generated throughout 2021 as he receives his fifth call-up to the Canadian senior team. Buchanan opened many eyes during the Reds run in the 2021 CONCACAF Gold Cup where the Brampton, Ontario-native recorded one goal and five assists across all five of Canada’s Gold Cup matches.
Although being eliminated by El Tri in the Semifinals of the tournament, Buchanan’s performance was enough to win him the Best Young Player Award. Buchanan has notched a total of 14 appearances for the Canadian National Team, where he’s netted three goals along with four assists. The Reds will also look to keep themselves above third place in the CONCACAF standings as they return to qualifying action on Friday, November 12th, as they host fifth-placed Costa Rica at 9:05 PM EST on Paramount+. Canada will then host first-placed Mexico on Tuesday, November 16, at 9:05 PM EST on Paramount+.
The trio will not miss any action with the Revs as all international games will be played during the upcoming international break.
