Luis Caicedo is out for the season

Luis Caicedo is recovering from knee surgery.

New York City FC v New England Revolution

Luis Caicedo has been put on the season-ending injury list after undergoing a successful surgery to repair the meniscus in his right knee on Wednesday, March 11. The expected recovery timeline is nine months.

Caicedo, 24, joined the New England Revolution in 2018 on loan from Cortulua of native Colombia. His tireless motor and tough tackles made him a regular starter for coach Brad Friedel.

After making 29 starts in his first year, Caicedo became a full-time member of the Revs. He made 27 starts as a sophomore, but didn’t appear in the team’s playoff loss against Atlanta United.

Caicedo struggled with a knee issue during the 2020 preseason, though he was able to play 30 minutes against the Vancouver Whitecaps. He didn’t feature in either of the Revs’ regular season games.

Head coach Bruce Arena will have to develop a plan as the Revs gear up for the tournament in Orlando. The players were on the field on Monday as they got the green light to resume full-team training.
