On Thursday March 19th, 2020, Major League Soccer updated followers on the updated procedure the league has taken in the wake of the ever-evolving COVID-19 crisis occurring around the world.

Major League Soccer announced via press release that the suspension of the 2020 Major League Soccer season has been extended for a longer period of time. This comes after the Centers of Disease Control and Prevention released new guidance on Monday that encouraged people to avoid gatherings with 50 or more people and urged organizers to either cancel or postpone large events.

This emphasis from the CDC is meant to stay active for a total of 8 weeks, which means that people are urged to avoid large gatherings until mid-May. With the latest guidance from the CDC, the Revs are slated to postpone at least 10 games and are slated to return to action on May 16th as they host the Columbus Crew.

The COVID-19 outbreak has not only put a hindrance on MLS action, but has also prevented clubs from practicing as well. On March 20th, 2020, Major League Soccer announced that the training moratorium was to be extended through Friday, March 27th, 2020. While training is suspended, players are expected to remain close to their clubs’ respective market and are expected to participate in social distancing.

Major League Soccer has been in contact with the CDC and other public health agencies as they monitor the COVID-19 situation.

With all of these disruptions to the 2020 MLS season, league officials are looking into different avenues that the league can take as they hope to be able to complete the 2020 campaign. One idea could have the 2020 MLS Cup Final take place in December. Another option that the league is looking into is having the postponed games made up over the course of the 2020 season and keeping the season on track.

As we wait for our beloved Revolution to return to action, I suggest you check out our Revs Madness bracket. Stay alert as we progress through the bracket, we are gearing up for some interesting matchups!

On behalf of the entire Bent Musket staff, we encourage all to remain safe in these crazy times. Remember to wash your hands in order to kill germs and remember to practice social distancing when applicable. Stay safe Revs Nation!
