The Revs wrapped up the Los Angeles leg of their preseason with an impressive 3-1 win over the Colorado Rapids.
Bruce Arena and staff made a few noticeable changes to the Starting XI from Monday’s match against the LA Galaxy. Brad Knighton took over for Matt Turner in goal, and was joined by Simon Lekressner, Henry Kessler, Andrew Farrell, DeJuan Jones, Damien Rivera, Scott Caldwell, Isaac Angking, Justin Rennicks, Tajon Buchanan, and Teal Bunbury.
Rookie and homegrown signee Damian Rivera notched his first preseason goal in the 7th minute after meeting DeJuan Jones’ low cross at the back post and gave the Revs a 1-0 lead.
Tajon Buchannan came close to doubling the lead in the 10th minute after his half volley forced the Rapids keeper to make the save.
Brad Knighton made a big save in the 13th minute as Andre Shinyashiki’s close ranged shot was denied by the veteran goalkeeper.
Rivera would go on to earn the brace in the 19th minute after cutting a defender and sending a powerful shot on goal to put the Revs up 2-0.
The first substitution of the match came in the 30th minute as Nicolas Firmino came on to replace Isaac Angking.
As the Revs came back on to the pitch to start the second half, Jeff Caldwell would replace Brad Knighton in goal.
The lead would be pushed to three as Tajon Buchanan would finish on the inside after receiving a cross from DeJuan Jones.
Colorado wouldn’t let the shutout happen as Jonathan Lewis cut the Revs lead to two.
As was to be expected, many changes were made to the squad at the 60th minute mark. DeJuan Jones, Seth Sinovic, Michael Mancienne, Brandon Bye, Kelyn Rowe, Wilfried Zahibo, Diego Fagundez, Cristian Penilla, Gustavo Bou, and Adam Buksa would come on to the pitch.
Andrew Farrell would return to the pitch in the 77th minute after Michael Mancienne had “taken a knock”. Although no information is available regarding the “knock”, we hope Mancienne can make a quick recovery and return to training.
As the final whistle sounded, the Revs walked away with a 3-1 victory over the Colorado Rapids.
The Revs will now travel to Portland to play the remainder of their preseason games, with the first being on Sunday the 16th when they take on Minnesota United at 5:30PM ET.
