The return of Lee Nguyen to New England was one of the highlights of the 2020 MLS season. Sadly he will not be returning to the club in 2021.
The Revolution announced at the end of their season that Nguyen was out of contract. Fans tried to stay hopeful but it seemed like the midfielder had played his last game.
Nguyen took to his Instagram on the 21st and his post made it seem like New England wasn’t in his plans for 2021.
Recent news has confirmed what we all thought. Nguyen is headed to Vietnam to play for Ho Chi Minh City.
Nguyen will forever be remembered in New England. He is one of the best to ever play for the club. He is the first player in club history to reach 50 goals and 50 assists in a Revs jersey.
The MLS veteran had the best season of his career in 2014 when he netted 18 goals and helped lead New England to the MLS Cup Finals.
Even at the age of 34, Nguyen showed how much of a gamechanger he can be. With Carles Gil out due to injury at the time of Nguyen’s acquisition, he transformed the midfield and helped kickstart New England’s attack.
So while the Revs will have most of their roster from their run in the 2020 MLS Cup Playoffs returning, fans will definitely miss the Revs legend when the 2021 season arrives.
