Wednesday was a night that was mostly filled with happiness for New England Revolution fans. They were able to pick up three points on the road and now are fifth in the Eastern Conference. Sadly fans also got some bad news, Cristian Penilla is likely out for an extended period of time.
When asked about Penilla’s status after the game, Arena stated that Penilla had suffered “a fifth metatarsal injury.” Arena would later go on to say that Penilla required surgery.
This is another blow in what can only be described as a disappointing season for Penilla. Prior to his last start, he had been out of the starting XI since September 12th.
But Penilla had turn things around. Entering the game as a substitute against D.C. United in the final game of September, Penilla dished out two assists. It seemed like he was getting into form and being the player that Revs fans hope to see night in and night out.
Sadly though, it looks like we might have seen the last of Penilla in 2020.
