Carles Gil is hoping he’ll return from injury this year.
Gil last played for the New England Revolution on Jul. 17 when he went 62 minutes against D.C. United. The midfielder was seen sporting a boot soon after, which raised plenty of concerns. On Aug. 6, the club announced that Gil underwent successful surgery on his Achilles tendon.
The original prognosis predicted that Gil would miss three-to-five months, meaning it was unlikely he’d play again in 2020. Things have changed since then.
On Oct. 13, Gil returned to Gillette Stadium to participate in individual training. It’s possible that the Designated Player could join team training in a couple of weeks. Gil himself said he’s aiming suit up again in 2020.
The local broadcast of Wednesday’s game against the Revs and Impact featured comments from Gil, who stated he’s been working hard during the last two months. He also stated, “My goal is to be back this season and hopefully I achieve that.”
