Matt Turner focused on Revolution and not a possible move to Europe

Matt Turner’s name continues to be thrown around in European transfer rumors but the goalkeeper is focused on what’s ahead of him with the New England Revolution.

Matt Turner has shown that he is one of the best goalkeepers in MLS. He has been a foundational piece for the New England Revolution and is starting to gain the attention of the USMNT. With all of those honors, fans have been wondering, “could Turner go to Europe?”

These rumors have mainly been stoked by Charlie Davies. The Revolution color commentator has mentioned that Turner could be headed to Europe multiple times this season whether it be during a game, on the Outside The Booth show, or other podcasts the former Revolution striker has appeared on.

But Turner doesn’t seem too focused on a possible move to Europe. All he wants to do is perform well for the club who took a chance on him.

He said. “Listen, if a team from Europe wanted to come in and bid for me, I’m under contract here in New England. I’m sure there would be a conversation, but for now we have a lot of games, we have a really busy stretch. My focus is here in New England. I want to achieve things for this fan base, for this club that took a chance on me, a kid that didn’t really have a big playing background. I’m really grateful, I’m really focused, and if something happens, it happens. If something doesn’t happen, I’m super happy here. Like I said, I’m really focused in trying to make the fans proud.”

So far half of Davies’ prediction has come true. It has been reported by MLS.com that Philadelphia and RB Salzburg have reached a verbal agreement on a transfer deal for Brenden Aaronson.

Revolution fans will just have to wait and see what happens with Turner. He is second in MLS in save percentage and goals against average. Turner also has six shutouts so far this season. If a European team was able to work out a deal, the Revolution would have a tough time replacing him.

But Turner wants to make Revolution fans proud. So far I would say he is doing a rather good job.
