Revolution Announce Expansion Draft Protected Player List

Revs announce who will be up for grabs during Tuesday’s draft.

On November 19th, Inter Miami CF and Nashville SC will partake in the 2019 MLS Expansion Draft. On Saturday, the list of players who will be available to select during the expansion draft.

The New England Revolution were allowed to protect 12 players and chose Designated Players Gustavo Bou and Carles Gil, holding mids Luis Caicedo, Scott Caldwell, and Wilfried Zahibo, attackers Teal Bunbury and Cristian Penilla, defenders Andrew Farrell, Brandon Bye, DeJuan Jones and Antonio Delamea, with USMNT callup Matt Turner in goal.

New England also had six players automatically protected due to homegrown or Generation Adidas rules: Issac Angking, Tajon Buchanan, Diego Fagundez, Nicolas Firmino, Justin Rennicks and Zachary Herivaux who has announced he will not return to the club next year. New signings Alexander Buttner and homegrown Damian Rivera were exempt from the process as their contracts begin in 2020.

The Revs have a total of 8 players unprotected who can be selected by either Miami and Nashville during Tuesday’s draft.

Juan Agudelo: The 26-year-old forward has been with the Revs since 2013 and has made 156 appearances for the club. During the 2019 season, Agudelo had 28 appearances with 3 goals and 2 assists in nearly 2000 minutes on the pitch.

Jalil Anibaba: During his second season with the Revs, Jalil shared the Center Back position with Delamea and Farrell. When ever on the pitch, Anibaba brought a ton of energy to the Revs defense and made some solid blocks in the Center Back Position. He was also able to score his first goal with the Revs against Minnesota United

Juan Caicedo: Caicedo joined the Revs on loan on December 20th. Although he was not always featured in the starting 11, Juan Caicedo was able to flash his offensive talent as he was able to secure 5 goals and 3 assists over 27 appearances for the Revs

Edgar Castillo: Edgar Castillo was acquired in the three-way trade that saw the Revs send fan favorite Kelyn Rowe. Over his 20 appearances for the Revs, Castillo managed to notch 5 assists. Unfortunately, Edgar Castillo was sidelined with a rib injury towards the end of the season which brought his 2019 season to an early end.

Cody Cropper: Cropper has spent the past 4 seasons with the Revs. With a total of 36 starts, Cropper has amounted 10 clean sheets and 102 saves. Cropper has been on loan with the Hartford Athletic since August 19th, 2019. With the Athletic, Cropper made 9 appearances where he allowed a total of 18 goals and 1 clean sheet.

Brad Knighton: Dating back to his 2007 debut, Knighton has made a total of 74 career appearances. Over those 74 appearances, Knighton amounted 13 clean sheets and 236 saves.

Michael Mancienne: Mancienne joined the Revs for his first MLS season in 2018. Throughout his MLS career, Mancienne only has 1 goal to his name, which was his first goal of his tenured career. Unfortunately, Mancienne struggled to stay healthy as he was scratched from the 2019 season opener after suffering a back injury in pre-game warmups. Mancienne also dealt with a foot injury which sidelined him in the middle of the 2019 season.

Brian Wright: Brian Wright was selected by the Revs with the 20th overall pick in the 2017 MLS SuperDraft. Wright has made a total of 14 appearances for the Revs since being drafted. Wright spent a majority of the 2019 season with USL’s Birmingham Legion. With the Legion, Wright made 28 appearances where he scored 6 goals.
