New England Revolution midfielder Carles Gil is a finalist for the MLS Newcomer of the Year Award. His competition is Heber (New York City FC) and Alejandro Pozuelo (Toronto FC). The winner will be announced on Wednesday, Oct. 16.

Gil started 34 games this season, playing all but eight minutes. He was the Revolution’s Golden Boot winner, collecting 10 goals and 14 assists. He led the league in possessions won in the final third (50) and successful passes ending in the final third (730).

Gil’s talent is well-known in New England, as his teammates named him the Players’ Player of the Year, the fans voted him as the team MVP, and the Midnight Riders honored him with their Man of the Year Award.

Gil is the second Revs player to be named as a finalist for the MLS Newcomer of the Year Award, which was introduced in 2007. Jermaine Jones was a candidate in 2014 but failed to capture the title.
